Williamstown CYMS - Round 10

Seniors

Reserves

U19s

Back after the break and dusting off the dew for the ressies and then seniors, we looked to get back on the winner’s list up against a dangerous Top-4 opponent in Mazenod.

After conceding the first, we settled and took over momentum of the game to show no signs of rustiness from the break. Unfortunately our momentum didn’t translate to the scoreboard with poor delivery combined with squandered opportunities appearing to be the theme of the day. With a score of 2.9, we failed to capitalize on our good work at the contest.

Credit to Mazenod, they came for a physical contest and they provided one at every contest and always stayed in touch. Heading into the last break, the Nodders pinched one with 30 secs left on the clock to reduce the margin to 15pts at the last change. After a see-sawing first couple of minutes where both sides scored, Mazenod had a 5 minute purple patch kicking 3 quick ones and taking the lead. As both sides struggled and gave everything for the last 15 minutes, no one was able to trouble the scorecard and Mazenod ultimately ran out winners in a fiercely contested game of football between two good sides.

While disappointing to lose, you cannot fault the effort and intensity of our boys and sometimes, regardless of the result, at 19s level it is great to see two sides having a dip and fighting out a close one.

Thirds

This week saw the Thirds play under Friday night lights at SportsCover arena against ladder leaders Marcellin.

We were greeted with a rainy and heavy track which suited the slick and young Marcellin side who managed to play the conditions much better that the CY’s.

Although we fought it out to the final siren (5 injuries left us with only one bench rotation), Marcellin’s hard running saw them overrun us in the final term to notch up an 8 goal win.

Best players for the CY’s were Buzza, Pocket Michetti, Ed Bordas, Jake MacKenzie, Rugby Joel and The Glove.

We will lick our wounds and be ready to go this week against an Ormond side who has had the wood on us at this level for a few years now.
